A Fellowship of Believers

10 Pieces of Good News You Need to Hear

AAA and I are very close friends. Flat tires, dead batteries, a stolen catalytic converter, a dead starter… You name it, and I’ve most likely called AAA for help with it. Most recently, I called for assistance putting on my spare tire after driving over something that put such an effective hole in my tire, I literally watched the tire deflate in a manner of minutes after getting safely parked. This ended up leading to an entire new set of tires on my vehicle because I was close to needing some new wheels anyway.

But just two weeks into driving on my brand new tires, of course, my “low tire pressure” light came on on my way to work early one morning. And, of course, I drove right back to the place that had just put on my new tires so they could take a look. Because I have such splendid luck when it comes to cars, it was only fitting that they found a screw in one of my two-week-old tires. And, of course, even though the tire was definitely still under warranty, I still owed them $50 for the work of changing the tire and for the new warranty on my new new tire.

When the worker gave me the news about what I owed, I was less than thrilled, and he could definitely sense my frustration. I knew it wasn’t his fault, but still, I could not successfully hide my exasperation at the latest car bill on a list of many over the past couple years. I apologized, and I commented that he’s probably often the unfortunate recipient of people’s frustration and disgust, usually through no fault of his own. He said, yes, I have to be the bearer of bad news, which isn’t always fun!

That got me thinking about a variety of jobs where people have to be the ones to deliver bad news. What a tough position to be in! For example, that poor customer service call center worker who picks up the phone when someone calls in to complain about their cable bill being too high? The worker has absolutely NO control of cable prices, and she certainly has no power to change them. But still, she’s stuck delivering the bad news that your bill isn’t going down, and no, you can’t get the lower price that brand new customers get for their first month. (And yes, I have been on one end of a call just like that one! Ha!)

As believers in Jesus, we can deliver all kinds of GOOD news to people. Isn’t that incredible? Aside from hard truths about sin, which may feel like bad news to some people in some situations, the Bible is absolutely full of good news. If you or somebody in your life needs to hear some good news today, here are 10 pieces.

  1. God fights for you. In whatever battle you may be facing, you can stand firm on His promises and trust Him to deliver you.

Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” -Exodus 14:13-14

  1. God can be found. If you look for Him, you will find Him. He’s not some distant being that only comes near when you do something amazing or when He feels like it. He is omnipresent and always accessible.

But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. -Deuteronomy 4:29

  1. He keeps His promises. Every single one of them, every single time. No matter how much you love your family and friends, none of them can make that same claim. People are imperfect, but God is perfect. If He’s made a promise in His Word, you can consider it done.

You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed. -Joshua 23:14

  1. God’s beauty and majesty can be seen in creation! Having a rough day? Look up at the skies, take a deep breath, and remember that God is glorious and majestic. Even if you can’t put words together in an overwhelming moment, you can experience the Lord through His creation.

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. -Psalm 19:1-4

  1. He is with you. Whether you’re going to work, to a funeral, to a difficult conversation, to war, to a court proceeding, to a celebration or to fun gathering with friends. God is with you, and He gives you strength and help. Whenever you might need it, He has it for you. If your life feels like it’s crumbling around you, He is ready to uphold you with His powerful hand.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. -Isaiah 41:10

  1. God can turn things around. He is all powerful, and He is a God of healing and restoration! When you’re feeling lost or hopeless, He is THE ONE who can both trigger and empower a change of circumstance.

Then young women will dance and be glad, young men and old as well. I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow. -Jeremiah 31:13

  1. God brings light into the darkness. He is the light! When you can’t find your way, you can look to Him to light the path. When you’re stuck in the darkness of sin, you can look to Him for forgiveness and a fresh start. When you feel overwhelmed by the chaos and struggle of the world around you, He is the light that brings life.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” -John 8:12

  1. He knows you. The real you! He knows every tiny little intimate thing about you. It’s impossible to be misunderstood by God. You can relax knowing that He knows you to your deepest core (and still loves you without reservation).

But whoever loves God is known by God. -1 Corinthians 8:3

  1. He guards your heart with His peace. Peace is extremely desired yet often feels just out of reach. But while that may be true about worldly peace, God’s peace is reliable and powerful. It’s beyond our comprehension to even understand it. His peace can fill your heart and mind in Jesus’ name.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:7

  1. God does not change. People change, situations change, the seasons change, leaders change, opinions change, recommendations change, but God does not change. You can trust and rest in His sameness today, tomorrow and for eternity!

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. -James 1:17

Of course, there’s way more than just 10 pieces of good news in the Bible… Read Scripture for yourself and see! If you tried to make a list of everything encouraging and helpful in God’s Word, you would be writing and writing and writing and writing and writing. Thank you, God, for the GOOD NEWS you bring us! Let His good news spur you forward and turn you into a mouthpiece for His kingdom. There are plenty of people in the world delivering not-so-great news. Be that person who’s sharing the best news of all!
